For the wood burning we just happened to have a wood burning tool in the closet. I didn't have a book, or anything. We just practiced how the tip burned on a scrap piece of wood before we did the ruler. It was fairy easy since we only did lines & very simple numbers.

What a lovely post! Beautiful illustrations in the books. We love making butter but it's usually me that ends up doing most of the shaking! I'd be interested to know more about the wood burning - a book recommendation or website perhaps?

Go for it, it was pretty easy. Even Sammy would be able to burn simple lines & words.

I LOVE the ruler. We have a wood burning kit around here. I don't think that it has ever been used....hmmm

Ha! My girls asked the same thing, Jenn! I showed them the picture of her with the hypnotized wild lizard she caught - surely she has a gift of some kind...maybe she is a healer....anyway, I laughed really loud at the cute hamster picture with his yellow teeth! Our ratties have that, too and it's just natural for them to be that color as they age, for some reason. But what a great shot! Hammies are hard to photograph...and I have to say I LOVED how she made her ruler - will have to remember that one for Grade 3...as always, just an amazing post! Oh and her MLB looks fantastic!

I wish I knew. She just holds them still for a second & they fall asleep, ans stay that way until you nudge them. It's wierd, but very cool.
